The model EP917 is a 2nd generation, manually prototyped plaque (ca 2007) intended for small to medium size tumors (base ≤ 8x10 mm, height ≤ 6 mm tall). The EP917 casting is similar to the prior USC#9 casting (ca 1993) that predates Eye Physics, but it is not exactly the same. The model 917 slots are a bit deeper (approx. 0.8 mm vs approx. 0.4 mm) and the seed coordinates are slightly different. Follow this link for EP917 vs USC#9 History.

  • For 25 mm diameter eye.
  • 18K standard gold alloy.
  • Approx. 16 x 14 mm
  • 2 anterior suture eyelets
  • Coverage for 5mm Rx height: 8x10 tumor base + 2mm margin.
  • About 1.5 mm thick
  • 17 shallow seed slots: approx. 1.2 X 5 X 0.8 mm
  • Plaque face offset from sclera <= 0.05 mm.
  • Semi-elliptical seed pattern
  • Posterior seed orientation spares macula and optic disc a bit.
  • Posterior notch facilitates placement adjacent to the optic nerve.
  • Seeds are to be glued into slots using a medical device grade cyanoacrylate adhesive (e.g Loctite 4014).
  • Can be steam sterilzed using 4 minute flash cycle at time of surgery.
  • Standard set includes an 18K gold plaque and a gold plated brass suture template. Replica gold plated brass dummy plaques are available by special order. The dummy plaques are drilled with a small hole to distinguish them from the 18K gold plaques.
  • Price varies with the cost of gold at time of purchase and style of suture template or dummy plaque: approx. $1900.

PS versions ≥ 5.7 supports very detailed 3D models of the Eye Physics plaques and radionuclide seeds. In these captures from the planning system the 3D models are superimposed over scanned pictures of the plaques as they appear in the PS plaque loading window.

Plaque Simulator's 3D models of the EP 917 displayed translucently (left) and in wireframe (right), superimposed over a 1200 dpi scanned the picture of the actual plaque and a ruler. The empty slot positions into which the seeds are glued are outlined with brown lines. The wireframe model also includes 3D translucent models of IsoAid I-125 seeds.
